ASEAN–India relations

The Republic of India maintains an ongoing dialogue with the supranational Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which is separate from the bilateral relations with the 10 sovereign member States of ASEAN.
==History==
India's interaction with ASEAN during the Cold War was very limited. India declined to get associated with ASEAN in the 1960s when full membership was offered even before the grouping was formed.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=India's Look-East Policy )〕 It was only with the formulation of the Look East policy in 1992, that India began to give the region importance in its foreign policy.
India became a sectoral dialogue partner with ASEAN in 1992, and a full dialogue partner in December 1995. The relationship was greatly elevated in 2002 with the convening of the first ASEAN-India Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Since then, annunal summits have been held between ASEAN and India.〔http://www.asean.org/images/2015/November/asean-india/Overview%20ASEAN-India%20Dialogue%20Relations%20-%20November%202015.pdf〕 Since becoming a dialogue partner of ASEAN, India increased its association with ASEAN beyond functional cooperation to cover political and security dimensions as well. Apart from the Summit, the dialogue between the two consists of ministerial meetings, senior officials meetings, and meetings at experts level, as well as through dialogue and cooperation frameworks initiated by ASEAN, such as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1, the East Asia Summit ( EAS ), Mekong - Ganga Cooperation and Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation ( BIMSTEC ).〔
The first India–ASEAN Business Summit was held at New Delhi in October 2002. The then Prime Minister A. B. Vajpayee addressed this meet and since then this business summit has become an annual feature before the India–ASEAN Summits, as a forum for networking and exchange of business experiences between policy makers and business leaders from ASEAN and India.
India acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) on 8 October 2003 at the 2nd ASEAN-India Summit in Bali, Indonesia. At the same occasion, ASEAN and India also signed a Joint Declaration for Cooperation in Combating International Terrorism, an initiative to increase cooperation in fighting against terrorism.〔
